If you are new to Las Vegas/Henderson, you will soon find out that there are many opportunities to get involved with the community. Whether you are looking for festivals for the family or volunteer work, the options are vast.
Six years ago, I personally got involved with the CASA organization. A CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) advocates for foster children through the family court system. It is a unique volunteer experience as we get to work directly with the children, discovering what they need and helping them navigate through a difficult situation.
We work with foster parents, biological parents, therapists, case workers, family members – all working together to reunify these children with biological parents or other family members. And sometimes to terminate parental rights and help facilitate adoption. We tell the judge our objective opinion and strive to expedite the process, limiting the time the children are in foster care.
There is no other rewarding work. It may not turn out exactly as you wish or hope. But, it does turn out how it should. If you wish to open your heart to mentor and advocate for a child in need, feel free to contact me. I am happy to share my stories and connect you to the CASA organization, a truly respectable organization making a difference in our community.
